It's Summertime: Time for Picnics and Friends

Wyatt Sez: My Futures so Bright I Gotta Wear Shades!

Wyatt and River...Reunited

Ben Plays Songs for Wyatt

Wyatt Gets Held by Susie Storytime

It was barely June, and already, Wyatt had been to two picnics at Prospect Park in Brooklyn! The first, was a spontaneous one that William got invited to by his friend, Ben, after an afternoon of skateboarding. Wyatt and I were back in Manhattan hanging out with our friend Teresa in Thompkins Square Park when William called and said, "C'mon over to Brooklyn. I'm at a picnic in Prospect Park and Susie Storytime is here!" How exciting, an actual Susie Storytime sighting!

Susie Storytime is the storyteller at the New York Public Library's Mulberry Street Branch in our neighborhood. Since Wyatt was two and a half months old, we've been taking him to "Book Babies" each Thursday, a great hour of fun where Susie reads to the babies, bubbles are blown, songs are sung and then there is a little playtime at the end. Susie is so cute and really captures the babies' attention. She has become a celebrity of sorts, to us and to see her at the park, drinking beer and hanging out with age-appropriate friends, we were beside ourselves. So when Wyatt and I arrived at the park,  we immediately went over to say "hello" to Susie and got our picture taken with her, like it really was some kind of celebrity sighting. Boy, your celebrities change after you have a kid.

Later, at the same picnic, we sat next to Ben, who sang about a hundred songs and substituted most of the lyrics in each song for the word  "Wyatt". Wyatt was loving it., laughing, smiling and generally having a good time.

A couple weekends later we attended another picnic at Prospect Park. We hung out with William's surfing buddy, Carolina, her boyfriend, Laurent, and their adorable baby, River. Wyatt and River have met on many occasions. It's always good to see old friends, ones you've known your whole life - even if that's only six months.
